Words of a Student: Yasi Sanandaj '18 "Chapman donor support has made a difference for me by allowing me to attend a University that I have grown to love with every fiber of my being. Apart from pursuing a degree in the sciences and aspiring to become a physician assistant in our growing world of healthcare, I have been able to attend a University where I can immerse myself in the Chapman culture. I have had the opportunity to be involved with many factions that improve and support campus life such as student government, the Ambassadors program, American Medical Student Association and Hillel. I would not be here without Chapman donor support and I would like to sincerely thank the donors who have made my undergraduate experience at Chapman possible." Chapman University - Marriage & Family Therapy Program
May 11, 2015
Meet MFT Student/MFT Trainee, Cheryl Klem (Class of 2015) and hear about her thoughts regarding the MFT program and the Frances Smith Center at Chapman University . . . “I am so happy I made the decision to attend Chapman’s MFT program, and as I am about to graduate, I can say that I have positively no regrets!", this is what I tell people about completing my Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Chapman. Completing this degree in my area of passion at mid-life seemed crazy to some (and even to me at times), but it is one of the greatest accomplishments of my life. And I'm so happy that I chose Chapman. What I learned here and the experience at Chapman surpassed my expectations. The faculty is wonderful, the work was interesting and challenging, and the practical experience in the clinic has made me feel well prepared to work in this profession. The Chapman clinic is amazing. Not only does the clinic allow for the closely supervised learning of the students; the Frances Smith Center provides a great service to the local community and even beyond. I'm grateful and will be forever proud to say that I graduated from Chapman University.

Happy #SweetheartSunday! Are you dating or married to a Chapman alum? Share your Chapman Sweetheart story here: www.bit.ly/chapmansweetheart. Lauren (Blattenberg) Best ’10 married Brandt Best on April 2, 2016 in Topanga, Calif. Their love story according to Lauren: “We will forever owe a special thanks to my college roommate and Delta Gamma sister, Alyssa (Freeman) Roscoe ’10 for introducing us! Brandt graduated from Chapman the year I transferred to Chapman, so we never crossed paths at school. Alyssa, however, was still great friends with Brandt and his crew. In the summer of 2009 Alyssa brought me along to Brandt's house in Newport Beach for a night out and the rest is history. Of our 18-person wedding party, eight were Chapman grads and we had 20 Chapman grad attendees (of our 80 total)! We also had one of our best friends, Joe Dehart ’10, officiate our wedding!” Alumni in their wedding party included Lindsay Kearns ’13, Sarah Williams ’07, Andrew Williams ’07, Joe DeHart ’10, Sam Oshin ’07, Ryan French ’08, Mike Lubin ’10 (JD ’13), Chris Mastick ’07 and Blake Delong ’07.

WORDS OF A STUDENT: Emiko Kaneoka '19 "From the moment I stepped onto campus, I knew Chapman University could be my home. Although I was only a high school student at the time, something about the atmosphere, the students and the faculty that surrounded me felt strangely familiar, yet exhilaratingly new. Since then, I was fortunate enough to be accepted to Chapman University as a public relations and advertising major, and experience my first semester here. Now, as a second-semester freshman, I can truly say that the beautiful campus, exceptional faculty, amazing career opportunities and friends I've made, have proven Chapman to be my new home. Without the academic and Disciples of Christ scholarships that I received, Chapman may not have been an option for me. I would like to truly thank every Chapman University donor, along with my parents, for supporting my academic pursuits and future at this extraordinary university." Words of a Student: Alex Himstead '17 "I want to thank Chapman donors for helping me become the leader that I am today. I decided to attend Chapman in large part because of the generous scholarship and financial aid that I received, and I'm so thankful that I did. At Chapman, I feel at home in a collaborative science community, where students and faculty work together to learn and grow. I cherish my relationships with my professors, and my ability to give back to Chapman students as a supplemental instruction leader, and none of this would be possible without your help. Thank you so much." Alex Himstead '17 Major: Biology Hometown: Mercer Island, WA These words of appreciation were volunteered by Alex Himstead. Words of a Student: Kyle Herron '17 "In the spring of 2015, I transferred to Chapman University with an uncertainty of how I would adapt to a new campus culture. Almost immediately upon arriving, that feeling was diminished by the welcoming arms of the Chapman Family. I felt at home in the state-of-the-art facilities and stimulating academic environment. With the help of the powerful and respected Chapman alumni network, it took me only a few weeks before I had summer internship opportunities. Now, thanks to Chapman's donor support, the dream I have for a future in the music business and startup tech is becoming a tangible reality." Words of a Student: Kevin Leake '18 "My most memorable achievement while I've been at Chapman has been our lacrosse team's 2016 championship season. Not only was this Chapman's first time winning the MCLA national championship, but our team also went 22-0, making us the winningest lacrosse team in Chapman's history. We hope to continue this success through our upcoming season. On top of participating with the lacrosse program, I am also involved in a variety of other extracurricular activities, while striving to maintain high marks and take full advantage of my education. If it wasn't for my Dean's Scholarship, I wouldn't have been able to attend Chapman to seize these opportunities, so I thank you for all your generous donations and contributions you have given to myself and our University!" Grateful Faculty: Dr. Christopher Kim “Since arriving at Chapman in 2004, I’ve mentored over 60 undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students in independent research in my environmental geochemistry lab, where we explore topics ranging from arsenic contamination in abandoned gold mines to iron nanoparticle aggregation and metal adsorption in aquatic systems. These research experiences are transformative for the students who get to tackle real-world scientific problems first-hand, dig around historic gold mines in the Mojave Desert, conduct high-powered experiments at one of the brightest X-ray sources in the world, and present their research at national and international scientific conferences alongside experts in the field. My students have gone on from Chapman to graduate school at Harvard, Stanford, Carnegie-Mellon, UC Berkeley, Boston University, and elsewhere. I firmly believe that your support of Chapman directly enables these types of valuable experiences at the undergraduate level, and helps launch Chapman students to the next successful stage of their lives.” Dr. Christopher Kim Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences Hometown: Moraga, CA Terminal Degree: Ph.D., Stanford University These words of appreciation were volunteered by Dr. Christopher Kim. Words of a Student: Brittney Souza '18 "Chapman's donor support has absolutely changed my life. As a first generation college student, the generous scholarships that Chapman provides have allowed me to be a part of a variety of organizations. I am currently completing undergraduate research on the Middle East and Islam as well as participating in various social justice organizations on campus like J Street U and United Nations Association. After Chapman I plan to apply for a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant grant to Jordan and eventually attend law school for international or immigration law. The confidence and resources that I have been given through Chapman have been possible because of your amazing donations. Thank you again for supporting me and other students in our endeavors for higher education!" WORDS OF A STUDENT: Courtney Bankhead '17 "Working with the Phonathon program, I have had the incredible opportunity to stand at this forefront of the Chapman Fund and experience each and every day the kinds of people that are a part of this community, supporting your everyday, ambitious Chapman student like me. It's the parents that are seeing the torch of education and intelligence being passed on to their students. It's even the young alumni who are fresh out of school, paying student loans, but still want and feel inclined to give because a University like Chapman has helped pave the way to a bright and secure future for them. Generous is too limited a word to describe the way the Chapman Family supports students through the Chapman Fund. You have provided me with the essential tools necessary to thrive at life on a University scale, and for that, I am always grateful. You have laid the foundation for my Chapman experience here. The seamless balance with the cycle of giving here at Chapman is the reason why students like myself are able to succeed. You make me happy to be a Panther."
