Opera Chapman rehearsals are underway for their fall scenes performance featuring Shakespeare in Opera, which opens October 16-25 in Salmon Recital Hall. Here the two Ophelias (Yllary Cahuaringa and Sarah Fantappié) work on their roles for scenes from "Hamlet." Artist-in-Residence and Associate Director Carol Neblett works closely with the vocalists on staging and expression, helping give their character greater depth. Other scenes will be from "Falstaff," "The Fairy Queen," "The Merry Wives of Windsor," "Macbeth," "Othello," and "Roméo et Juliette." In 1961, Martin Luther King Jr. (pictured below with alumnus Mark Messer ’62) visited Chapman and spoke about racial justice and nonviolent resistance. Chapman continues to make efforts in support of diversity and inclusion and is now about to celebrate another milestone with the opening of a Cross-Cultural Center in February. We are looking for stories from alumni who were involved with groups and movements on campus that supported and celebrated diversity.
