Yep, that's right, I'm from Brazil. 🇧🇷 I am one of hundreds of international students at Chapman that come from over 88 countries including China, India, Saudi Arabia, UK, etc. Many people don't know this, but Chapman has representatives (shoutout to Marcela!) that travel around the world recruiting students at college fairs to attend Chapman. I had never heard of Chapman before until I went to one of these fairs in my city and got to know a little bit about the school-and the rest is history. 🎓 Coming to Chapman as an international student is very different and sometimes hard: I am about 6,120 miles away from home. I moved from another country with two suitcases and two carry ons two start a new life in the unknown. My dad helped me move in and the next day had to fly back to Brazil. I was alone in this new environment, knowing no one and trying to figure out where to fit in for the next 4 years. Little did I know that Chapman was a school filled with amazing people that really create a welcoming environment for us international students. 🐾🙏🏻 something that I find hilarious and love is that no one believes me when I say I am Brazilian. 🇧🇷 They always say things like "But then why is your English so good?" Or "but you don't look Brazilian!" And I love these questions, because it shows how diverse Chapman can be without people even realizing it. Through my last 4 years here at this school I have learned that Chapman overflows with diversity, and 9 times out 10 it is the diversity WITHIN rather than on the outside. Diversity doesn't have to be limited to skin color or how you talk, but to where you've lived, your story and life experiences, where you're from, and what makes you, YOU. 🎉 that's why I love Chapman. At first, it was really hard for me to come to a new country, make new friends, and try to fit in with this new culture. But Orientation week and the students and staff at Chapman did an amazing job at welcoming me, and now I am beyond proud to be a Panther, 🐾 and thankful to share #MyLifeAtCU #ChapmanU #CaptureCU

Last night, Chapman 50 hosted a "White Glove Leatherby Libraries Tour." The Director of the Rogers Center for Holocaust Education, Professor Marilyn Harran , did a wonderful job describing and explaining the collection and artifacts in the Samueli Holocaust Library. The Dean of the Library, Charlene Baldwin, organized an exhibit of some of the incredible books in our Special Archives, including a history book published in 1493!!! Here's a photo taken with Chapman 50 members in front of the Samueli Library.

Here’s a flashback from the 1970s for “Throwback Thursday.” That’s me with a mustache and black hair. The good-looking Omar Sharif look-alike in the foreground is our very own Essie Adibi. We are working on the first Chapman forecast with some of our students and some really spiffy computers. Be sure to mark your calendars for the 37th Annual Chapman Forecast that will be held at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall on December 3, 2014. See you there! JLD

We are off and running with the start of our 154th academic year in the life of Chapman University. We started off with a bang welcoming “The Aussie Bean” to the Attallah Piazza. I’m proud to say that Chapman now offers our students the best coffee in the world. JLD Here I am with a “Cold Brew” flanked by the proprietors of The Aussie Bean: Natalie Halfacre-Wilkinson ’08 and her hubby Gavin Wilkinson.
