Ed Ruscha was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1937. He moved to Los Angeles in 1956 to study at the Chouinard Art Institute, from which he graduated in 1960. He then quickly established himself as an important part of the Pop Art movement with graphic works that incorporated text, landscapes, and urban scenes from California. Best known for her large-scale outdoor sculptures, artist Betty Gold often begins her process by folding paper, which is then deconstructed and reassembled to create dialogue between geometric shapes and negative spaces. The resulting art is and expression of geometric universality and truth. Next time you're strolling by the Hutton Sports Center, take a moment to contemplate her works that are displayed there. "I must praise and thank Dr. Allali and Dr. Linstead. They shaped my life forever. It’s because of them that I was awarded the Senior Award in Mathematics from #ChapmanU. Eventually, I was offered an internship at Google in the summer of 2013. I was one of the first programmers to work with #GoogleGlass. Today, I work in Newport Beach as a software engineer. I still talk to Dr. Linstead on a regular basis." - Travis Hummel ’12 #PantherPride #ChapmanStories

On Friday, Chapman will be co-hosting an Anti-Human Trafficking symposium with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. There will be panels featuring Loretta Sanchez, Ed Royce, State Senators Lou Correa and Mimi Walters, and Assemblyman Donald Wagner as well as Chapman faculty Lynn Horton (Sociology) and Julie Marzouk (Law). Here are some highlights of key events: o Survivor Stories – On Thursday evening at 5pm two survivors of human trafficking will be speaking to a select number of Chapman students about their stories as survivors. Space is limited; to register, go to https://orgsync.com/22989/forms/122718. o Clothesline Project – The Clothesline Project is an exhibit of hundreds of shirts made by Chapman students who are survivors of sexual violence, or friends, family members, and advocates of other survivors. The Project serves as a visual depiction of sexual violence and provides an opportunity for students to speak out against violence. The project will be displayed around campus on Friday from 10am-7pm. All are invited to view the project and/or make a shirt to add to the Chapman Clothesline Project. Sponsored by C.A.R.E.S. o ChapMAN’s Walk Against Violence – On Friday, the men of Chapman will put on high heels and walk to Old Towne Orange and back as part of ChapMAN’s Walk Against Violence. It’s their way of taking a stand against rape, sexual assault and other violent acts that target women. Sign ups begin at 4pm in the Attallah Piazza followed by the walk at 4:30pm. There is no fee to participate, and all are encouraged to walk alongside of our men. Sign-up on-line at www.chapman.edu/peer. This event is co-sponsored by C.A.R.E.S. and Panhellenic.

Here I am with the greatest team in the world – The Chapman Team – celebrating our annual holiday party. The many smiles you see are because they love being part of the Chapman family. The smiles have absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I let everyone off early for the holiday break. So to all my friends out there in the worldwide web: Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa and it’s Festivus for the rest of us! JLD
