WORDS OF A STUDENT: Michael Nelson '16 "Words can't express the gratitude I have for the men and women who generously give to Chapman University. Every memory I have made, every obstacle I have overcome and every accomplishment I have achieved would not have been possible without the support of Chapman donors. I have the opportunity to work as a summer intern at a public relations firm in Australia because of the opportunities donors have opened up at Chapman. I have never been to another continent and I am just ecstatic to have the opportunity to go. I can't wait to make a positive impact in another part of the world while learning skills that will benefit my future immensely." Grateful Faculty: Anna Leahy, Ph.D. "In 2008, I came to Chapman University ready for the next stage of my career, excited to foster poetry as part of the intellectual life of the University, and enthusiastic about guiding undergraduate and graduate students toward discovering and achieving their goals. Based in the English Department, Tabula Poetica now brings visiting poets to campus to interact with our students, and, through a collaboration with a faculty member in graphic design, the international journal TAB helps cultivate the landscape of contemporary literature. As the director of the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (OURCA), I oversee programs that support faculty-mentored individualized student research and creative projects across campus, from studying sea slugs to developing virtual reality films to scouring historical archives. I extend deep gratitude to all those who generously contribute to Chapman University, where ideas flourish, interact and grow. Your contributions allow faculty and students to create and share transformative experiences that become the foundation for our lifelong learning." THE CHAPMAN PENNANT on the summit of the Carstensz Pyramid! Left to right: Chapman trustee Scott Chapman, Adam Doti, guide Todd Passey, President Jim Doti. President Doti reports: "“We made it to the top! Most grueling experience of my life. As the explorer Robert Falcon Scott would say, “Do we have a tale to tell!” But now that the Chapman pennant has been to the summit of Carstensz Pyramid, it has made it to the top of ALL of the World’s Summits (Carstensz is considered the Eighth Summit). I believe that it is the only university pennant in the world to be able to make that claim, including you know who." YOU know who! Now Jim and Adam are off to Australia to finish their expedition with a brisk climb up Mt. Kosciuszko. Stay tuned and follow the expedition blog - posting Scott Chapman's detailed report on the climb! : https://blogs.chapman.edu/happenings/2015/09/01/president-doti-is-climbing-the-highest-peaks-in-new-guinea-and-australia/

WORDS OF A STUDENT: Corie Pitpit '19 "I cannot thank you enough for your kind donations that have helped make my first year here at Chapman University as memorable and special as it has been. With the support of you and your donations, I am able to be part of a community with great students, teachers and faculty members that will give me the best preparation for my future. The thing about Chapman that really caught my eye while I was touring the school was the beauty of its campus. This beauty is due to your donations, which have helped to create such an aesthetically pleasing school. There are not enough words to thank you for all you have done to help make Chapman as great of a school it is!" Chapman MBA
December 1, 2016
Student Feature: Melissa Harandi, Full Time MBA '17 My name is Melissa Harandi and I am currently a full time MBA student at Chapman on track to graduate this May. I graduated from Chapman's film program with a B.F.A in film production. Shortly after graduation, I began working as a marketing coordinator for HRTV, which is a nationally broadcasted television network exclusively devoted to horse sports. I've always had a strong passion for the business side of the entertainment industry, so I decided to go back to school for an MBA. My background is in film production, so the MBA program's close ties with Chapman's film school was a huge selling point for me. Next semester, for example, the MBA program is offering an entertainment industry business course; which is especially unique since most MBA programs don't cover the entertainment industry. I love the "personalized" educational experience that the Chapman MBA offers. Chapman's small class sizes make it easier to participate in class, get to know your classmates, and have interesting discussions with both your peers and professors.

In honor of #veteransday, we applaud triple-degreed Chapman alumna Antoinette Balta '03 (JD ’06, LLM ’11) president and co-founder of the nonprofit Veterans Legal Institute in Santa Ana, CA. The nonprofit provides free legal assistance to homeless, at-risk, disabled and low-income current and former service members. Last year alone, Veterans Legal Institute helped more than 1,300 veterans, earning Balta and Stirling a place on Orange County Register’s 100 Most Influential People in Orange County list for 2016. “She has done really incredible things,” said Matt Parlow, dean of the Chapman University Fowler School of Law. “She’s doing really impactful work with a very deserving client population.” In addition to two law degrees, Balta earned her undergraduate degree in business administration at Chapman University Argyros School of Business and Economics (ASBE) in 2003. Balta continues to #thinkchapmanfirst and frequently taps the Chapman pipeline when hiring. Dallis Warshaw (JD ’14) is a policy analyst for Veterans Legal Institute and Johannes Marler (JD ’16), a retired Marine, is a current clerk. There also is a regular flow of interns. “They are fantastic,” Balta said. “The Chapman students stick out. They are hard-working and passionate about what we’re doing.” https://blogs.chapman.edu/news-and-stories/category/business-and-law/

WORDS OF A STUDENT: Brianna Asmus '17 "After deliberating long and hard about where I wanted to see myself in the future, I turned my back on a career in medicine and followed my heart to the film industry and Chapman University. I worked tirelessly through my high school years to achieve good grades, which granted me the presidential scholarship at Chapman. This scholarship has allowed me to explore art and follow my true passions in a way that I never could have predicted. I have been exposed to the film and music industries in a hands-on and fully immersive way. Next fall, I will be studying abroad at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. This is all thanks to the generous scholarships and support I have received from Chapman and its donors." WORDS OF A STUDENT: Sonia Djafri '17 "Simply saying 'thank you' cannot express my gratitude towards your generous donations. As a scholarship recipient, I would not have been able to attend Chapman University without your continued commitment to our school. Attending Chapman has been the opportunity of a lifetime. As a student who plans to pursue getting an M.D. after my B.S., I will forever be grateful for all the professors, mentors, and friends who I have been connected with at Chapman, and the invaluable opportunities that have been provided to me through those connections. Through these connections I have been able to attend a medical brigade in Ghana, lead a wilderness trek to Yosemite for first-year students, work as a supplemental instructor for General Chemistry, and study the the effects of resistance training and moderate caloric restriction on the bone health of growing adolescents, among so many other things. So, thank you again. I will forever be grateful for your contributions and for all the opportunities that you continue to provide for me."
