WORDS OF A RECENT GRADUATE: Samantha Dominguez '16 "I am so thankful for the scholarship I received for my education at Chapman. Without it, I would not have had all of the wonderful opportunities that come with being a student at this excellent university. During my time at Chapman, I was the president of a music education club on campus, a music director/vice president of our all-women's a cappella group, and have had great opportunities to work for our Chapman Summer Choral Camp 3 years in a row as a section leader, teacher, and conductor. Without my scholarship, I would not have had the opportunity to attend a university that has molded me into the person I am today, which I love. Thank you so much!" Chapman University - Marriage & Family Therapy Program
January 26, 2017
The MFT Program at Chapman is pleased to announce today that Susan Jester, has become Clinic Director of the Frances Smith Center effectively immediately. Susan is an alumnus of the MFT Program at Chapman, graduating in 1991. Since that time, Susan has worked here at Chapman for the past 25 years in the clinic. Susan has served in many capacities in the clinic, the most recent being Associate Clinic Director and Clinical Supervisor. Susan’s passion has always been to train our students to be stellar clinicians. Any Chapman student and alumnus will tell you that through Susan’s mentorship, training and supervision they have gotten through the most difficult of clinical situations and become strong, confident therapists. Students know that if there is a crisis situation or something that you need to run by regarding clients or clinical skills, to come by Susan’s office or that she is a phone call/text away. Even alumnus can tell you that Susan is always available for guidance and mentorship, post Chapman. Susan’s training and the way she works as a Psychodynamic Therapist, has inspired many of us to explore Attachment Theory and Object-Relations principles in the ways we think and conceptualize the family system of our clients. Susan’s influence and dedicated work in the MFT program’s clinical training aspect has truly made our program dynamic in the community. Congratulations to you Susan in your new role as Clinic Director!

Most people at Chapman don't know this about me, but I've been a dancer since I was 2! I grew up wanting to be on Broadway & heard about Chapman because my sister almost came here for dance. At the time I loved making funny videos for my YouTube channel, so I applied to Chapman's Summer Film Camp & got in! (Yeah I was shocked too) I spent 2 weeks at Dodge learning all about the world of TV & Film. Living in the dorms & "going to college" as a junior in high school was such an exciting experience & it sparked a little flame in my heart to pursue a career in Broadcast News. Now as a junior in college I look back at that film camp & am so grateful I had the opportunity to figure out my passion before I applied to school. The fact I get to go to Chapman where my dream began makes me really feel like the dream is coming true. My challenge to you is to have an open mind about your dreams & don't limit yourself to what you've always done since you were 2. You never know what amazing thing lies right around the corner (or application) that could be part of your amazing destiny. It could just be a dream away. ☺️✨ #DoStuff #DreamBig #Dancer #FilmKid #Newsie #ChapmanU #ProudPanther #SetGoals

Words of a Student: Ryan Rodriguez '17 "As I am starting the last semester of my final year at Chapman University, I cannot express how thankful I am to have had the privilege of attending this fantastic institution. Being a student of this university has created so many opportunities for me, and some would not have been possible had I gone to any other school. One of the best opportunities that I received was being offered an internship position from one of my favorite professors at her agency. Currently, I am working there now and love everything about it, but this wouldn't have been possible without Chapman and without all of your scholarship donations. Thank you!" Chapman University's Office of the President

On Saturday evening, Lynne and I attended a dinner party hosted by Chapman President's Cabinet Member, Milan Panic. At the dinner, I had the honor and privilege of making two announcements: The first was to announce the forthcoming publication of Milan Panic's biography written by Chapman's own professor Mark Axelrod, and the second was to announce a $2 Million gift from Milan Panic to go towards The Musco Center for the Arts. Paul and Marybelle were there along with fellow donors Wylie and Bette Aitken who expressed heartfelt appreciation to Milan for his very generous and visionary gift. If all that isn't enough, the highlight of the beautiful evening on Newport Bay was hearing Mr. Panic recognize all of his guests and tell everyone how much it meant to him that a poor kid from Serbia is now able to give back to Chapman to honor his friendship with the Muscos. WORDS OF A STUDENT: Lijah Vann Gardner "Thank you so much for providing generous scholarships and facilities to further my education and passions at Chapman. Due to scholarships and state-of-the-art equipment, I am able to attend Chapman and work in a biology lab studying cancer cells one-on-one with one of my professors. Every day I am so thankful to attend a university where my professors care about my studies and provide real-world experience in my field of interest. In addition, attending Chapman has given me the opportunity to travel and participate in medical brigades world-wide, which has encouraged me to be a global citizen." Tonight Chapman BSU will be hosting our first event of the month, the 1st Annual MLK Awards, in the Fish Interfaith Center at 7pm. This award ceremony honors those in the Chapman community for their hard work and dedication towards Dr. MLK's 3 principles: service through the community, love over hate, and action over silence. Come and help us celebrate those who inspire us everyday to be better people and to create change. Along with giving out awards, there will be two live performances by Amir Kelly and JasmineMaree Johnson backed by Adri-Anne Ralph's band. You will also have the chance to hear a snippet of the exact speech MLK gave at Chapman College back in 1961. This is a powerful and auspicious occasion you will not want to miss!

The gavel used by our Board of Trustees was made in 1912 by a college trustee out of wood from one of the buildings on a campus in Chapman’s earlier life when we were located in Berkeley, California. I figured that our Board of Governors also deserved an historic gavel. So Kris Olsen was able to get a 4 x 4 piece of wood for me from our oldest building on campus built in 1903 – Wilkinson Hall. We know it’s the original wood, because the wood had a stamp on it from a lumber company that was in business from 1895-2010. I used a portion of the wood to make the gavel that I presented to the Chairman of the Board of Governors – Judi Garfi-Partridge. Now both boards at Chapman have a bit of Chapman history. Check out the photos. JLD

OPERA CHAPMAN PRESENTS: "The Elixir of Love" (L'Elisir d'Amore) by Gaetano Donizetti; April 24-26 in the Chapman Auditorium, Memorial Hall. Traditionally depicted in a small 18th-century Basque country village, THIS production is instead set in the slightly more "hip" location of Las Vegas in the 1950s, when the "Rat Pack" reigned, and Liz Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, or James Dean were on every magazine cover. It's the hilarious story of a lovesick bellhop, the most beautiful girl in town, an ambitious soldier and a swindling "snake oil" salesman as they navigate misguided affections and magic love potions. Chapman University - Marriage & Family Therapy Program
June 15, 2016
Meeting Heather Beeson (Class of 2017) and hear about her experience in the MFT program at Chapman University . . . "My time at Chapman has been one of the most fulfilling and enriching experiences of my life. During the past two years, I am constantly finding myself discovering just how dynamic and strong our MFT program is. Now, taking my next step into the clinic, I realize again just how blessed I am to be a part of the Chapman community. At first, it seemed so daunting to begin seeing clients as I entered my practicum; however, as I make this transition, I appreciate just how prepared and fully ready I am to take this next step. With the opportunity to collaborate with my colleagues and the support and encouragement of the faculty, I am finding my footing and discovering myself as a therapist. I could not imagine a better setting for myself as I continue to learn and grow in this field."
