My son, Adam, got tickets and invited me to a U2 concert at the Forum Wednesday night. Bono and crew were terrific. Great staging and video graphics complemented the music perfectly. “Sunday Bloody Sunday” alone was worth the price of admission. We went with my daughter, Cara, and nephew Tim Ryan. He brought a friend David Smith who just happened to be the father of Chapman grad and student Taryn and Robyn Smith. I also bumped into two other Chapman grads: Noah McMahon and Andrea Torres. Quite an evening! JLD

The award-winning documentary, The Legacy of Heart Mountain, is about Japanese American Internment during World War II and will be shown Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall. After World War II, some universities did not admit Japanese Americans. Chapman University on the other hand, accepted this population, including Toshi Ito, who came to Chapman after leaving Heart Mountain internment camp, and received her B.A. in sociology in 1946. Toshi is featured in this film and will be part of a panel following the screening. You don't want to miss this event!

The Master of Arts in International Studies program honored two graduating students at a celebratory dinner with faculty, family, and friends at Avila’s El Ranchito Orange. Rebecca Dattilo (left) received the award for Outstanding Service. During her time at Chapman, Ms. Dattilo worked to promote the program and increase awareness about the 4+1 option among current Chapman undergraduate students. Tawni Curtis (right) received the Outstanding Academic Achievement. Ms. Curtis has one of the highest GPAs of the graduating MA International Studies students and her thesis, “A Comparative Analysis of Refugee Asylum Policies in the European Union”, is of publishable caliber and quality. Congratulations Rebecca and Tawni!

Chapman Schmid

Commencement is over, but in the final weeks of school both Schmid and Crean had their own senior celebrations, highlighting individuals who lived and breathed #ChapmanSciences during their time here, and acted as incredible ambassadors for Chapman's science programs. Lots of students win awards, but Matt Rivera, outstanding senior for Athletic Training, and Sovanndara "Dara" Hok, outstanding senior for both Physics and Chemistry, took home the big prizes in their respective programs. We're so proud of them, as we are all of our graduating seniors, and we're excited to see what they'll do next!
