Congratulations to Team Orange County, a collaboration that included Chapman students working with students from UCI, Irvine Valley College and Saddleback College. Our team took home 2nd place in the all-important “Best Engineered Home.” It made me feel very proud to attend the awards ceremony and see our students and faculty advisors on stage receiving the award. The faculty advisors from Chapman were Fred Smoller, Geraldine McNenney, Elaine Schwartz, David Shafie and Virginia Warren . I wish to thank Fred, in particular, for all he did to lead the charge. Chapman is a major sponsor of this year's Association of Writers & Writing Programs Conference in Los Angeles March 30 through April 2 and will send a large group of MFA students and faculty to participate in the conference where more than 12,000 attendees gather to share ideas, network and learn from today’s leading authors and teachers of writing. Among the featured presenters will be Richard Bausch, a professor in Chapman’s creative writing program and author of 11 novels and eight collections of stories, including The Last Good Time, which was made into a feature-length motion picture, and Peace, which was awarded the 2010 Dayton International Literary Peace Prize.
