Well that's a wrap for me! It's been an exhausting week but I've loved sharing just a brief window into my Chapman Experience with all of you. In my role as an Admission Fellow I am often asked what my favorite part of Chapman has been and the answer is always the same: the people. Whether it's a fraternity formal, American celebration, working on a group project, or just hanging out with a few close friends there's something magic about this community that I'll keep with me for the rest of my life. If you want to continue following me after this week hit me up at @JMBeeks If not it's been a good ride, peace out Chaptown 🐾

It's Thursday already! Hard to believe that tomorrow is the Closing Convocation for graduation! Not sure where the time went... This photo shows a group of men, who I am proud to call my brothers. Coming to college four years ago, I had absolutely no intention of joining a fraternity and would have laughed if someone told me that one day I'd be the president of one. The men of Delta Tau Delta and all other Greek chapters at Chapman have done an extraordinary job of defying Greek Life stereotypes, helping the community, and doing philanthropic work. I am proud to be a member of that community and it has shaped and greatly enhanced my college career! -Lijah #MyLifeAtCU #ChapmanU #deltataudelta

Dong Kingman, also known as Dong Moy Shu, was born in Oakland, California on March 31, 1911. At the age of 5, his family moved back to Hong Kong in order to open a dry goods business. In Hong Kong, he attended the Chan Sun Wen School where he excelled in both drawing and painting… When his family moved back to Oakland in 1929, his passion prompted him to enroll in the Fox Morgan Art School. He would go on to lead a successful artistic career after getting through the Great Depression as a WPA artist, and then working for the US Army as a war artist. Two of his works are currently on display at the Hilbert Museum. Mem (מ) is for Maccabee (מכבי). The Maccabees were a group of Jewish rebels who refused to worship the Greek gods as mandated by their Seleucid rulers. Through guerilla tactics, the Maccabees were able to gain victory over the Seleucid army and retake Jerusalem. The timely death of the Seleucid Emperor Antiochus IV stalled a second campaign against the Maccabees, who were able to capitalize on the situation and negotiate for their religious freedom. It is this struggle for religious freedom, rather than the military victory, that is central to the celebration of Hanukkah.
