Charles C. Chapman Legacy Society
May 1, 2015
At the Charles C. Chapman Heritage Society event last Friday, President Doti announced a name change for the Planned Giving office to now be known as the Office of Legacy Planning. Not surprisingly, most people donât understand what planned giving is. Additionally, it can sound complicated and intimidating. Thatâs certainly the wrong message. While it may still involve some explanation, we hope that legacy planning places the emphasis on making a difference for others in a lasting and meaningful way. Itâs more about a donorâs vision for the future as a member of the Chapman Family. After all, a meaningful legacy is for people of all ages and income levels. We all want to make a difference, and legacy planning empowers everyone to make those important decisions. David and Lindsey's contact information remains the same and can be found on www.chapman.edu/legacy, along with information about legacy planning.

Chapman University - Marriage & Family Therapy Program
November 1, 2016
Meet Ann Worley, MA, LMFT, Clinical Supervisor/Adjunct Faculty in the Marriage & Family Therapy Program at Chapman University . . . "I came to the LMFT career later in life and have found it exciting and extremely rewarding. I have been licensed since 2002, and have spent years seeing clients of all ages and situations. I have always known that I learned more from them than they ever would from me. I feel the same way about clinical supervision, where I get to share some of what I have learned with MFT trainees and interns. In addition to the privilege of supervising Chapman students in The Frances Smith Center, I also supervise pre-licensed therapists for two agencies that contract with schools and school districts to provide in-school counselors. I have always wanted to give back to the profession, and am a past president and current board member of the Orange County chapter of the California Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT)."

I begin my weeks story with one of my favorite college activities...working with startup companies. Bet you thought I was gonna say something else huh? It may seem convincing in the photo above, but this is no ordinary solo cup. It's labeled and represented by a startup company called @ulyngo that was founded by a current student here at Chapman University. I've always had the entrepreneurial gene and being a television student has allowed me the chance to create content in support of these student run businesses. The sense of collaboration at Chapman is wonderfully overwhelming. Students from every part of campus can come together and exchange their talents in order to support one another! Instead of looking to craigslist to sell your bicycle or textbook, students can turn to a college friendly online marketplace like Ulyngo. I was even able to make a little promotional video with my friend @kaylamichel16 ! Go check it out here: http://bit.ly/1SCDZk9

Ellina Kevorkian is a multidisciplinary artist based in L.A. who works in paint, photography, video, and even performance. Her works often combine different media and explore feminist ideas. From an interview with Westworld: âI feel that in many ways right now, art has become entrenched in theory and academia and Iâm really wishing for something more raw, abject, and expressive. And in some cases, more romantic. Even saccharine. Anything that makes it more relatable to the women I talk to regularly.â Read more about her and contemporary art at our blog: https://blogs.chapman.edu/âŚ/30/contemporary-art-vs-modern-âŚ/ Ellina Kevorkian âLast Night My Tears Were Falling, I Went To Bed So Sad And Blue, Then I Had a Dream Of Youâ Mixed media, 2002 Acquisition purchase #art #californiaart #californiaartist #laart #laartist #laartists #ellinakevorkian #contemporaryart #feminism #chapmanuniversity #chapmanu #escalettecollection

Victor Hugo Zayas is a Los Angeles based artist who typically paints with quick, aggressive brushstrokes in layers of thick impasto in order to create hist distinct paintings. While his works are obviously influenced by impressionism and are often compared to those of old masters, such as JMW Turner, his style is uniquely his own, and continues to evolve. The artist has also completed a series of line drawings as well as a series of sculptures made from dismantled guns given to him by the LAPD, demonstrating his versatility and talent as a major Californian contemporary artist. In observance of Veterans Day, we are sharing a work by the late artist John Paul Jones, who was a veteran of World War II. Jones fought in Okinawa, which is considered to be among the most brutal and violent of the warâs campaigns. After the war, Jones would become one of the greatest American printmakers of his time. A recurring theme in his art is isolation, with compositions often made of a solitary figure surrounded by darkness or emptiness. Please take a moment to view this piece and meditate on the hardships our soldiers have had to face in defense of this nation. San Franciscoâs Chinatown is built around Grant Avenue, which is depicted here by painter Jack Laycox. Chinese immigrants have faced a turbulent history in the United States; discriminatory laws prevented them from marrying non-Chinese, to vote, and they are the only ethnic group to have been specifically denied entrance to this country. However, times have changed. In 2015, the Chinese became the largest single immigrant group to the U.S. It will be interesting to observe how the cultures will continue to blend. You might even watch it happen yourself and visit Grant Avenue- just as Jack Laycox did half a decade ago.
