WORDS OF A STUDENT: Sarah Shimanek '16 "As a Chapman graduate student earning my Doctorate of Physical Therapy, as well as a wife and mother of two, I can be quite busy. But this semester I have had the privilege of interning at a local physical therapy clinic, where I am able to provide treatment for countless members of the Orange County community, and it has been so rewarding and worth the stress of going to school while raising a family. I finally feel like I am doing what I am meant to do. I am thankful to Disciples on Campus and the scholarships the group provides for helping me along this path where I can serve the members of my community by doing what I love." WORDS OF A STUDENT: Amanda Larsh '17 "I've always had a passion for history and film, but it wasn't until high school that these passions meshed into my love of documentary film. Without Chapman's Documentary Film Center and the amazing donors who continue to support it, I would not be able to follow my dreams of becoming a documentary filmmaker. I wouldn't be able to afford this school without the help of benefactors like yourself who realize the importance of higher education and its ability to unlock worlds some have only dreamed of." Chapman University - Marriage & Family Therapy Program
March 30, 2016
Meet Brandi Martin (Class of 2016) and hear about her experience in the MFT Program at Chapman University . . . "“Growing up, I was constantly intrigued by change and how people make it happen. My decision to become a therapist came from the inspiration of wanting to wake up every day, feeling confident that I was making a difference in people’s lives. Therapists are often labeled as problem solvers who get paid to give advice; however, this program has helped me to see that therapists help assist clients in creating possibilities from what looks like the impossible. Chapman University has undoubtedly shaped me as a person, and also my confidence as a future mental health professional. It has been a humbling experience to provide therapy to clients who are committed to this process, and the program has qualified me to continue to pursue my dream of becoming a licensed therapist. Refining my approach to therapy has helped me embrace who I am and incorporate this in my practice. My professors, supervisors, and peers, knowing and believing in my skills, have pushed me outside my comfort zone to create more personal growth than I ever imagined taking from this experience. I feel honored to be a graduate student in this program, as it has anchored my choice of profession. I will graduate from Chapman University with not only a Master’s degree, but also with life-long friends and colleagues. That is what I would call successful.”

Chapman University - Marriage & Family Therapy Program
August 10, 2016
Meet Alex Zanaboni (Class of 2017) and hear about her experience in the MFT Program at Chapman University . . . "Marriage and Family Therapy was something I more or less fell into, although I always knew I wanted to work hands-on with people. I genuinely believe in our tendency towards growth and our natural desire to survive; plus I enjoy hearing the different stories we all carry around. These two fundamental aspects drew me to the field of psychotherapy, and specifically to the MFT program at Chapman University. I believe that we are all doing the best that we can, considering the circumstances we are given. I am happy to work with people on a daily basis to achieve their goals and trust that we are all capable of taking care of ourselves. Chapman University and the Frances Smith Center for Individual and Family Therapy have provided support and training that has set me on the path towards becoming a successful therapist. I cannot wait to see where that path leads."

Chapman University - Marriage & Family Therapy Program
March 27, 2017
Meet Mckenzie Amundson (Class of 2018) and hear about her experience in the MFT Program at Chapman University... "My experience in this program has been so incredibly rewarding. I feel so lucky to be part of a cohort where my classmates became friends and we make it through every class together. We lean on each other for support and build each other up when we need it. Whether that support is needed during midterm or final season, or a tough assignment, we always know there is someone to turn to for help. Taking the next step into the Frances Smith Center with my cohort has been challenging and extremely rewarding thus far, and I imagine it will only get better. We get to finally put our hard work to the test, and all of a sudden we are working our dream job as MFT Trainees. With both my cohort and Chapman MFT professors that are mentors, I feel confident that in January 2018, I will walk out into the real world with real confidence that the MFT program gave me what I need to be successful in this field. Thank you, Chapman!

Chapman University - Marriage & Family Therapy Program
April 3, 2017
Meet Katherine Fan (Class of 2018) and hear about her experience in the MFT Program at Chapman University . . . "After researching every school offering a graduate program in Marriage and Family Therapy in Southern California, Chapman University was my top pick. Initially I was drawn by the small class sizes and the chance to work in an on-campus clinic on campus as part of my education. When I learned that I accepted to the program, I was incredibly excited. The time I have spent here is incredibly rewarding, and the. Professors, students, and staff have all been very encouraging and supportive. I have gained invaluable experience that I will carry throughout my life, and I have been challenged to grow both personally and professionally. I believe that the education I have received here at Chapman has well prepared me for a career in Marriage and Family Therapy. I feel very fortunate to be a part of this MFT program and I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience here."
