President Doti is mountaineering again! He's on the island of New Guinea right now, in Papua province, with his son Adam and Chapman trustee Scott Chapman, attempting to climb the highest peak in Southeast Asia, the so-called "Eighth Summit," the Carstensz Pyramid. At more than 3 miles high, with a sheer granite face, the Carstensz is an extremely challenging technical climb, with a lot of rock-climbing involved. Plus, it's in the midst of a dense jungle, in a politically unstable region, and it rains all the time. (So, no pressure.) Following the Carstensz attempt, the group will trek to Australia and, I guess to rest up, will climb the highest peak on the Aussie mainland, Mt. Kosciuszko (a mere hill at just 7,000+ feet, but by doing so they'll knock off one of the traditional "Seven Summits"). They'll be sending dispatches and photos when they can, as they go -- we've set up a blog page here, with the most recent news at the top, so you can follow the adventure! (When they're off the grid, which they will be soon, we can track them by GPS, so we'll update that way.) -- Mary Platt, #ChapmanU Director of Communications

WORDS OF A STUDENT: Nathaniel Cook '15 "As a music performance major I have learned a lot in the past four years but the most learning, for me, has come from the interactions I’ve had with Professor Fitzpatrick. He has pushed me to critically think about the music I’m learning, to methodically look at how I’m approaching my instrument, and not be afraid to question everything about music. Even though he is a violin professor it hasn’t mattered that he doesn’t play cello - the content is the same and it has only enhanced the classes and all that I have learned here at Chapman. I know that without donor support, I wouldn’t have been able to take full advantage of this opportunity and been able to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding that music is forever changing, and that it only gets better the more you question it and flip it upside down to get a new perspective. Thank you so much for your support. I am forever grateful." Nathaniel Cook '15 Majors: Instrumental performance (music), emphasis in cello Hometown: Fort Worth, TX These words of appreciation were volunteered by Nathaniel Cook. When you include Chapman University in your estate plans, you provide countless opportunities for students like Nathaniel to live their dreams. For more information, contact David B. WORDS OF A STUDENT: Hannah Spellman '17 "Without financial assistance, I would be unable to pursue my passion for film editing and sound design at one of the best film schools in the world. Unlike most film schools, Dodge College students retain the full rights to their projects, and have the opportunity to work on as many of the 40+ student films produced every semester as we'd like. My on-set experience, as well as total access to the school's vast array of rentable equipment, industry-standard software, editing bays, mix rooms, ADR suites and a Foley stage allows me to maximize the professional experience I receive while attending college. In fact, if not for financial aid, none of my three roommates and best friends would be able to study journalism, business, or news and documentary at Chapman, and due to their respective hometowns of Chicago, Washington D.C., and Yangon, Burma, we would have never met. Thank you for making our dreams a reality!" Hannah Spellman '17 Major: Film production, emphasis in sound design, minor in art Hometown: South Hamilton, MA These words of appreciation were volunteered by Hannah Spellman. I definitely couldnt get through college without my best friends as my support system, so heres three of them! Its been a great week, and a great four years, but it looks like its time for my last post and my last finals week. I just wanted to re-emphasize that Chapman is great because of the different people that you meet, and Im lucky to have met so many people who made my time here so memorable and taught me valuable things. Like many, I've had ups and downs throughout college...but we'll all be fine as long as we remember that we fall so we can learn to pick ourselves back up (And here I thought I could get through the entire week without a Batman reference...). Thanks for following #MyLifeAtCU everyone, be sure to follow my personal account @soggzpls Its been a blast but I have a few tests and papers left before becoming a Chapman Alumnus so off I go! Good luck on finals week everyone, may the force be you ✌🏽️- Sagar Kamnani #CaptureCU #ChapmanU #NerdAlert

New Summit Internship Program – I am very excited to announce that the Student Life Committee of the Board of Trustees has been working with the Career Development Center and local companies to create a special internship opportunity we are calling the Summit Internship Program. The Summit Internship Program is a pilot program separate from our regular internship opportunities, and contains two components: o Summit Internship – Edward Jones, First American Corporation, and potentially other great companies will be offering high-quality, full-time internships in Summer 2015 paying $15 per hour or more for those Chapman students selected. o Summit Career Institute – Students in this pilot program will participate in a special Institute on professionalism in the workplace; this 8-session Institute will train students on professional interviewing, workplace expectations, and how to interact with professional colleagues. Sessions will be led by successful local executives, many of whom are Chapman alumni. Participation in the Summit Career Institute is required to apply for these pilot program internships. The first Institute session will be Tuesday, September 30, at 7pm. For more information or to sign up, stop by the Career Development Center Internship Expo on Tuesday or contact Sally Jafari at jafari@chapman.edu.

Chapman University - Marriage & Family Therapy Program
May 18, 2016
Meet Melissa Brody (Class of 2016) and hear about her experience in the MFT Program at Chapman University . . . "Growing up, I was fascinated by what shaped human behavior and felt a strong desire to help those who were struggling in their lives. Learning about the profound impact our families of origin have on who we become motivated me to want to study Marriage and Family Therapy. I feel so fortunate for my education and clinical training that I have received at Chapman, as I constantly felt supported by our professors, supervisors, and the administration. Through our classes, clinical trainings and supervision I have grown not only as a person but have developed confidence, knowledge, and the skills necessary to pursue my passion for helping others. My experience working in the Frances Smith Center was truly life-changing. I feel honored that I have been able to witness my clients' strengths, resilience, and the ability to make positive changes in their lives. As I graduate from this program I look forward to continuing helping individuals, couples, and families create meaning and find happiness. Although I am excited to start my career as a clinician, leaving Chapman is bittersweet. During this journey, I have made lifelong friends and am anxious to see what rewarding careers we have in store in for us as we venture down our different paths."

Grateful Faculty: John B. Benitz "It has been a fantastic year in our Department of Theatre. Our reputation nationally as a top program for training theatre artists has grown immensely and seems to show no signs of slowing down. I am so proud of our students and faculty. It is important that donors and those thinking about supporting us know that we could not do the work we do without you. That is a fact. From scholarship dollars that help us recruit the best students, to gifts that make our productions look as good as they do—these gifts are vital to us meeting our goals. So thank you to all who have helped make this year great.” John B. Chapman University - Marriage & Family Therapy Program
October 13, 2016
Meet Jauna Cruz (Class of 2017) and hear about her experience in the MFT Program at Chapman University . . . "Joining Chapman’s Marriage and Family Therapy program was one of the best decisions I have made and has challenged me in more ways than I ever thought possible. I have had the privilege to learn from some truly inspirational professors and know I will leave as a stronger and more grounded individual and therapist. I have felt nothing but support and respect from both faculty and peers, and have no doubt built many relationships that will continue long after this program. I was originally drawn to Chapman’s MFT program for the unique opportunity to work in the onsite clinic, which allows direct supervision from our professors and faculty. This has proven to be an essential and important part of the program and my development as a therapist, and I strongly believe I would not have received such support anywhere else. My supervisors have provided me with sincere guidance and feedback that has allowed me to grow personally and professionally in my own authentic way. I will forever be grateful to this program and to everyone I met along the journey, and will continue to apply what I have learned to both my work as a therapist and my personal life."

Happy Tuesday Panthers! I hope finals are going well! This picture takes me back two years ago to an AMAZING experience. Through the club on Chapman's campus, Global Medical Brigades, I have had the opportunity to go to both Nicaragua and Ghana on medical service trips. This photo was taken during the Ghana brigade, where we fundraised for medicine and supplies all year and then took it to rural villages with doctors. The people in these rural community have no access to any form of healthcare! I met a 65 year old man who had never seen a doctor in his life. This photo holds dear to my heart because I am pictured with my friend Isaac. Isaac was one of the children in the village and followed me at all times and had the biggest heart! These trips have only solidified my aspirations to pursue a career in medicine. I am so thankful that being a Chapman student has given me opportunities such as this one! -Lijah #MyLifeAtCU #ChapmanU #CaptureCU
