Ahoy matey! So, you want to know about the ancient tale of the UPBlack Pearl? It all started with the very first Midnight Breakfast years ago. The first captain didn’t know how to keep his crew motivated in the final days of their adventure to Chapman University. Alas, the captain Kichael Meyser began planning the first Midnight Breakfast. From the Atlantic Ocean they sailed southeast to Chapman University. It was approximately 10:00 p.m. when the crew saw the University from the shoreline (with a really good telescope). The moon was shining bright, and the crew was soon to give up when they were just a few days away from their treasure. Captain Kichael Meyser ordered the feast and celebration in the UPBlack Pearl. He allowed the most veteran crew members to feast first as they would be the ones to tell the tale of the UPBlack Pearl once they obtained the treasure. What was the treasure you ask? Legend says it was a piece of paper. This paper represented the knowledge each crew member obtained during their voyage, and the debt they consumed throughout it. But hey, they got to eat for free and their story lives on.

My final post, ah sad day! Well this photo captures one of the most unique and fulfilling experiences that both Chapman and Greek Life have provided me with. GIRLS (Girls Inspiring Respect Leadership and Service) Academy, a two day retreat for underpriveleged middle school girls run by Kappas. Our chapter was selected out of a pool of many to put on our very own GIRLS Academy which was such an honor. GA happened right as my term as our chapters Philanthropy Chairwoman began so I came in during all the madness! Really it was @isabel_may who put everything together and had been planning things for a year prior! GA was such a life altering experience facilitating talks and activities relating to female empowerment, stopping bullying and working hard to achieve higher education all while teaching the girls to love themselves. GIRLS Academy really brought me back to what I love and am so privleged to do as a member of Greek Life, Kappa and overall as a citizen of the community- philanthropic work. Thank you Kappa for GA and for the incredible young ladies there who we became so close with, it was an honor and a life altering experience. Well folks that is all I have for you! Thanks for reading my super longb posts and following the story of my chapman experiences so far! Feel free to hit yo girl up with a follow @emilyy_bee ! Until next time fam💖

Technique Icons can take a variety of forms- they can be carved, embroidered, sculpted, or painted directly to a church wall. However, the most familiar form is tempera paint on wood panel. The panels are created from multiple boards of wood held together with additional struts on the back side. This is because a wood panel will warp over time. Paint cannot be applied directly to the surface of the wood because wood is so absorbent, so a mixture of chalk and glue called gesso is layered to create a hard and smooth surface. Tempera, which is made by mixing egg yolk and pigments, is then painted on in stages because of how quickly it dries. Finally, the whole painting is covered in a protective varnish made of resin. Often times, the icon is also adorned with an ornate metal cover. Chapman University - Marriage & Family Therapy Program
September 7, 2016
Meet Kandace Brown (Class of 2017) and hear about her experience in the MFT Program at Chapman University . . . "I am grateful that the MFT program has truly prepared me to pursue my dream of positively impacting the lives of others. Though I developed a passion for therapy at the age of twelve, I never could have imagined how rewarding this experience would be. Through the encouragement and support of the program's staff, faculty, and students, I have grown tremendously, both personally and professionally. I have also been challenged to stretch myself beyond my limits in order to forge my identity as a clinician in this field. The two aspects of the program that have impacted me the most are having the opportunity to build relationships with incredibly talented and inspiring individuals, and being given tools that will help me succeed far beyond my journey here at Chapman. I thank the program for providing me with exceptional education and training because I know that this has been the perfect path for me and my career."

Gender Inclusive Restroom Day is an event that temporarily transforms existing binary restrooms on campus to gender inclusive community restrooms. The restrooms themselves do not change only the signage is changed. he purpose of the event is to bring awareness to gender segregation of restrooms, demystify stigma around gender-inclusive community restrooms, and create awareness around the need for inclusivity and safety for students, faculty, and staff that do not identify with the two-gender binary restrooms that currently exist at Chapman University. Visit one of the gender inclusive restrooms in Argyros Forum 2nd floor, Beckman 1st floor, Dodge 2nd floor, and underneath the Sandhu dining commons to demystify stigma around the need for gender inclusive as well as get more information to raise awareness around the need for inclusivity and safety for students, faculty, and staff that do not identify with the two-gender binary restrooms that currently exist at Chapman University. If you have any questions or for further resources stop by the student union on 10/12 from 12-4PM and ask a Cross-Cultural Engagement program assistant!

Orientation Week at Chapman is basically my favorite week of the year other than Christmas. For First Year students it's a time to adjust to Chapman, get to know new people and eat a lot of free food. As an Orientation Leader O-Week is when all of our hard work finally comes together. After a week and a half of 16 hour training days and 5 am wakeup calls we have the unique opportunity to meet and bond with the newest class of Panthers. This video is my favorite memory from O-Week this past year during a little event called Playfair! We were all so ready to dance our hearts out and keep the energy going for students on the field that afterwards I had to leave for a water/sit down break because I had danced so hard and thought I was about to double over! Being an OL introduces you to so many fantastic and interesting people who are new students and also your fellow OL's. It's an incredible week of fun. Shout out to @gmanbordelon for his hard work and creating this video (and the full video thats up on youtube!) Stay tuned for tommorrow when I tell you all about how almost freezing off my pinky fingers and a bus ride to ESPN HQ has forever impacted my life! -Emily Biehl

Nun (נ) is for candle (נר). Candles play an important role during Hanukkah. Their light is both symbolic of the light of God, as well as a reminder of the miracle of the oil. The candles are placed in a special candelabra called a hanukkiah (menorahs are different, and while they are a symbol of the Jeiwsh faith, they are not specifically Hanukkah related), which holds nine candles- eight for each night of Hanukkah, and one for a special candle called the shamash, which means “helper” or “servant” in Hebrew and is used to light the others. It must be set on a different level than the other eight candles in order for the hanukkiah to be kosher. Each night, one candle is added from right to left, but they are lit from left to right. The hanukkiah is often placed in a central doorway of the home, or in the windowsill, in order to share the joy of the celebrants’ faith. Chapman MBA

MBA '15 student Alexander Street was elected to be part of the Graduate Student Council and holds the position of Chair of the Executive Committee. "The graduate student council (GSC) was started last year, under the guidance of Dr. Redding, who is the Vice Chancellor for Graduate Education at Chapman University. The GSC has representatives from all graduate programs. The goal of the GSC was to create a more unified graduate student community, and help bring awareness to issues that involve graduate students. This was the first functional year of the graduate student council. So far this year, we have successfully lobbied for changes to the academic probation policies for part- time and 4+1 students, and we hosted a graduate student mixer at 149 Sports Grill & Bar which had over 200 attendees. Currently, we are working to create a social media presence for graduate students and to create a forum where all students can voice concerns- not just GSC representatives." #ChapmanMBA #GraduateStudentCouncil #Leadership
